Cabins

Do the Cabins have wireless internet?
Sadly, no. We are unable to offer this in-room amenity at our somewhat remote location. In fact, our only option for wireless internet is through a satellite system that is available in our Main building (including our restaurant), but cannot be broadcast it throughout the rest of the property.

This internet service provides basic email and internet usage, but the satellite-based bandwidth is limited and NOT able to support Skype, instant messenger services, YouTube, streaming video (like Netflix), video downloads or other high bandwidth applications.

What does the kitchenette in the Ponderosa units have in it?
The kitchenette has a mini fridge, sink; 2-burner stove top that can cook simple stove top meals, microwave and microwavable dish.  There is no oven in the kitchenette.  It also has a coffee maker and a dish service for 4; this includes plates, bowls, glasses, coffee cups, silverware, frying pan, sauce pan and cooking utensils.  Most folks plan on simple stove-top prepared meals when eating in.

What does the alpine unit have for cooking?
The alpine unit has a microwave and mini fridge.  While we do not put dishes in the alpine units, we will provide them upon request.

Do the units have outside fire pits or grills?
All units have an outside fire pit with a flip down grill.  All units also have a picnic tables and we do supply wood for our cabin guests.

How do I check into my unit if it is after hours?
If you have not arrived by the time the main lodge is closed, we will tape an envelope to the front door of the main lodge for you.  This envelope will have your name on it and inside is a map letting you know the location of your cabin. We will leave the porchlight on and a key in the door of the cabin.

What is the square footage of the cabins?
The square footage of the Ponderosa Cabin Unit is 572 and the square footage of the Alpine Cabin Unit is 405.

What is the check in time and checkout time for the cabins?
Check in time is 3 pm or later.  Check out time is 11 am. During the winter season, we may have more flexibility on arrival and departure times, please call to check.

What is the policy on Smoking?
All Cabins at Red Canyon Lodge are non-smoking. A $250 fine per room per night will be enforced if you smoke in the cabins.  We want to maintain a healthy and clean property that is smoke free.

What is your Pet Policy?
Red Canyon Lodge is pet friendly! We have a few simple rules;

1. Do not leave your pet unattended in our cabins.

2. Please keep your pet off our furniture & bedding,

3. Remember that the National Forest has a leash law, and

4. Make sure your pet is part of your experience and not that of your neighbors!

What is provided outside the Cabin?
All cabins have an outside fire-ring (with a flip down grill) and a picnic table.

What is the deal on outside fires?

You may have an outside fire in the fire-ring provided. Please remember that you are in a forested setting and fires need to be attended at all times! Large Bon Fires are unecessary and dangerous. Please make sure your fire is completely out before retiring for the evening. Have Fun - Be Safe!

What about music?
Please leave your loud boom box at home! Sound carries a long way in our peaceful setting and outside noise is often an annoyance to your neighboring guests.

Can I set up a tent outside my Cabin?
No. Our landlord, the US Forest Service tells us that tents are for campgrounds and all of the guests at Red Canyon Lodge must reside inside our cabins.

Horseback Riding

What should I wear to go on the horseback rides?
Ideally, long pants and closed toed shoes are best to wear for horseback rides.

Where do the horseback rides go?
The horseback trails wander through the ponderosa pine forest around our location.

Do I need to be a guest staying at Red Canyon Lodge to go on horseback rides?
Anyone can schedule a horseback ride with us!  It is best to call ahead and schedule a ride, if you have a certain time you would like to go.

East and West Green’s Lakes

Do I need a state fishing license to fish East & West Green’s Lakes?
No state fishing license is required to fish on East or West Green’s Lake.  If you are a guest staying at Red Canyon Lodge, you may fish all you want on either lake.  If you are just stopping by for the day, you do need to stop by our gift shop and purchase a $5 fishing permit that is needed for East Green’s Lake only, then you can fish all day at the lakes.  Please remember both lakes are catch & release only and artificial flies & lures only.

Is swimming permitted in East or West Green’s Lake?
You can swim in the lakes, but we do discourage it.  The lakes have weed beds that are very thick and there are also leeches in the lakes.  There is a swim beach about 25 minutes from us at Mustang Ridge.  This is a safer option for swimming.
